Paramount Garden Restaurant

Paramount Garden Restaurant is a shop that specializes in pan mee. Hence it offers many variety of pan mee. Nonetheless, the shop also serves rice and even grilled fish.

Where?
55 Jalan 21/12, Paramount Garden, Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia

When?
11 January 2009. We went there with another family, there are a total of nine of us.

What?
Our orders includes dry Spinach , Carrot Mixed Pan Mee, Spinach & Carrot Mixed Pan Mee in soup and Chicken & mushroom Steamed Rice

How Much?
Spinach & Carrot Mixed Pan Mee cost RM4.60

Before I start on the food, I have to give credit to the restaurant's owner's for their liberty in providing many 'essentials' in abundance when eating in their restaurant.
That includes as seen below, vineger and chilli sauce!

Vinegar

Chilli sauce

Spinach & Carrot Pan Mee Dry Style
Here we have, the Spinach & Carrot Pan Mee Dry Style. You can't see much different in this Pan Mee from traditional Pan Mee. There are actually Green (Spinach) and Yellowish orange (carrot) Pan Mee in this plate. However, due to the black sauce, what you see is not much different from traditional Pan Mee. The ingredient includes anchovies (ikan billis), black fungus, sliced mushroom, minced meat with some vegetable with black sauce. If you add a little bit of vinegar and chilli, it make the taste stand out. (IT'S YUMMY!)

Spinach & Carrot Pan Mee in Soup

Here, you could see quite clearly that there are two type of Pan Mee mixed together, which is as mentioned earlier; consists of carrot and Spinach Pan Mee. The soup Pan Mee look more appetizing and presentable, not as messy as in the dry type. But if it is more about preference, both have it's own particular appealing taste.

A closer look at the Spinach & Carrot Pan Mee in soup form.
(YOU CAN EVEN ADD VINEGAR INTO THE SOUP!)

Chicken and Mushroom Steam Rice

A closer look at the chicken, mushroom Steam Rice with eggs

Not Really Traditional, Chicken and Mushroom Steam Rice.

Here is food for thought. On the menu it says steam rice, but no matter how I look at what I was served there and then, it definitely looked more like rice (un-steamed rice) on hot plate to me, unless the definition of steam rich has changed for the past, ahem.. years I've been living. Anyways steam rice or not, its the taste that matters. And boy, I wasn't disappointed. The rice was served with as per the title of the dish - naturally chicken and mushroom with egg. At first I thought the serving of chicken was small, but I was surprised that despite having only three pieces of meat, it was enough and had me full. But the star of the dish wasn't chicken nor the mushroom but the sauce it came with. The sauce is really spicy as it was cooked with dried chillies. It certainly add the extra oomph to the chicken and mushrooms as well as add more flavour to the un-steamed rice. This is a dish that is highly recommended and truly a hidden gem among the other pan mee orientated dishes that the shop offers.

Comments:
If enjoy eating Pan Mee or Chicken Mushroom steam rice, it is worthwhile to pay a visit to Paramount Garden Restaurant and experience the unique taste that the restaurant has to offer for the Pan Mee and the steamed rice.

Pan Mee

Where?

Bao Bao Restaurant at Aman Suria, along Jalan PJU 1/43, Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia

This restaurant opens from Monday to Saturday. The place is always packed during lunch time. We arrived at the restaurant around 12.55pm, but we did not have any difficulties looking for car parks. The restaurant serves various variety of Pan Mee. It is a nice place to go for lunch with good food and affordable prices.

When?

November 13, 2008. Me and my friend.

What?

We ordered two bowls of dry Spicy Garlic Pan Mee and two glasses of Chinese tea.

How much?

It cost RM4.80 for a small bowl of Pan Mee

RM5.50 for a big bowl of Pan Mee

The dry Spicy Garlic Pan Mee comes with a bowl of soup.
The soup contains a poach egg and some vegetables.

Spicy garlic Pan Mee
This bowl of Pan Mee contains Pan Mee of course, fish balls, minced meat, anchovies, and some dry chilly.
The Pan Mee comes in different types of noodle depending on the customer's preference.

These are spices that goes well with the Pan Mee.
Included are soy sauce, pepper, green chilly, sambal and their self-made chilly.

Comments: Good service provided. Despite the restaurant is packed during lunch hour, it did not take a long time for the food to be served. The prices of the food are reasonable and definitely affordable! I enjoyed my meal here and would like to come back again.

Kopitiam

Where?
Restoran Hock Thai
SS2/103
, Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia

When?

November 1, 2008. Lunch with family of five.

What?
We ordered 4 bowls of 'pan mee' and one claypot 'loh shee fun'.

How much?
'Pan mee': Big serving- RM4.30
Small serving- RM3.80

Claypot 'loh shee fun': RM4.30

[Non-halal]

The special and unique thing of this bowl of 'pan mee' is that it is hand-made.

The 'pan mee' is smooth, and it isn't too soft. Since it is hand-made, its texture is a little starchy yet easily bitten.

The ingredients in the 'pan mee' are simple and common. There are a lot of anchovies, mushrooms, minced meat and vegetables.

Other than that, the soup is clear and tasty.

Lime is served along with the chilly provided.

I suggest you to squeeze the lime into the soup to give the soup a tinge of sourness.

The ordinary soup becomes delicious, thanks to the lime juice!

This is also why I find this bowl of 'pan mee' different from the others we get else where.

Comments: In my opinion, this is one of the best 'pan mee' I've ever eaten eventhough it is simple and the ingredients are common enough. The price is also absolutely reasonable.
However, the 'pan mee' is only available during lunch time.
My brother loves this 'pan mee' a lot!

[Non-halal]

This claypot 'loh shee fun' contains ingredients such as minced meat, pork balls, lettuce, and a sunny side up egg.

The 'loh shee fun' is very soft and starchy.

This is another simple meal, isn't excellent, but I'm sure you will enjoy it!

'Cili Padi' and their self-made chilly.

Comments: I would rate this claypot 'loh shee fun' as 'simply simple', nothing spectacular, but it is definetely recommendable for a simple lunch.
